Five Obsessions covers five of my favorite songs or albums each month. Some new, some old. Some new to me, some revisited. Published in the middle of every month (typically on the second Saturday).
You can listen to the running list of Applied Science favorites in the Spotify playlist below and read about this week’s specific picks below that.
Nyron Higor - Nyron Higor (specifically “Som 24”)
A peace prevailing through nonstop noise. Album of the year contender for me.
Fcukers - “Play Me”
Big summer tune.
$uicideboy$ - “Napoleon”
A party at gates of hell.
Stresshead - “Pull Me Into You”
Reporting live from summer in London (it’s still pretty grey).
Young Dervish - “The Want”
A contortion constantly in search of a final shape. Vamping, stomping, swirling unsatisfied.
Bonus: Gucci Mane - “Weird”
The best use of an overused adjective. (Also home to probably the best oddball Gucci Mane put down, “Gucci Mane’s an alien and you’re not even ant”; that lyric is mostly the reason this song popped into my head, after hearing my almost three year old talk about aliens and ants in completely different contexts this past week.)
